J. Logan Murphy, an attorney at Hill Ward Henderson, has recently been elected Secretary of the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division (ABA YLD). His candidacy was unopposed and endorsed by attorneys across the country. After serving as Secretary in 2017 and Chair-Elect in 2018, he will assume the Chair of The Division in August 2019. Mr. Murphy will be the first Chair from Tampa in nearly 20 years.
The ABA YLD has over 150,000 members and 300 affiliated groups making it the largest young lawyer organization in the world. The Division is committed to representing the newest members of the profession, ensuring the profession reflects the society it serves, and providing young lawyers and young lawyer organizations with the tools and opportunities for professional and personal success.
Mr. Murphy is an Associate in the firm’s Litigation Group, with experience representing clients in a wide variety of business disputes. Along with his general commercial litigation practice, he focuses on the defense of attorneys and law firms in professional liability claims. He is also regularly consulted on complex motions and federal court practice, having clerked for Judge James D. Whittemore of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida from 2012 to 2014.
Along with his service in the ABA YLD, Mr. Murphy also works frequently with the ABA Standing Committee on Lawyers’ Professional Liability, having served as the YLD's Liaison to the Committee and helping to produce the semi-annual National Legal Malpractice Conference. He graduated Order of the Coif from Vanderbilt University Law School and with honors from the University of Florida Warrington College of Business Administration.
